My career path and personal experience in academia has inspired a firm belief that the tools used for music creation provide a bridge to knowledge and expertise in technology.
Exposing people with an interest in music to the technology behind contemporary production techniques often supports the discovery of unrealized interest in STEM and the potential careers in engineering and programming.
By motivating students to ask themselves questions like:
- Why do so many mathematical coincidences occur in the physics of sound and in what is considered appealing music?
- How is this software or hardware achieving its functions?
- If I were to design a similar tool, how could I improve it?
- Can I build a new type of expressive instrument for creating electronic music?
New learning can be nurtured, expanding creative skills while also providing the fundamentals needed for advancement in higher education.
